Donovan McNabb has cracked ribs and could miss two to four weeks.
Comcast SportsNet’s Derrick Gunn has just reported that Donovan McNabb has cracked ribs and will be out 2-4 weeks at a minimum. The offense looked weak today, and going the next few games with Kevin Kolb could set this team up for a freefall.
In fact, the Eagles only have one quarterback left right now. Michael Vick can’t play until week 3.
Paging AJ Feeley.
The bigger problem going forward is, if Kolb isn’t ready to be The Man, the Eagles may have to carry four quarterbacks on the roster for a couple of weeks when Vick is eligible to play.
McNabb won’t go on the IR. Kolb won’t get cut and the Eagles will sign another quarterback, most likely Feeley. Can you waive Feeley when Vick comes back? Doubtful.
Vick isn’t ready to run the offense an entire game yet. Do you want to go with him as the No. 2 guy behind Kolb if the third year signal caller out of Houston isn’t ready? Probably not. That would force the Eagles to keep Feeley until McNabb is ready.
So, unless you cut Kolb, or keep Vick inactive, you will carry four QBs on the active roster.
Obviously, Reggie Brown will get cut this week to make room for Feeley, or whichever QB they bring in. Who else do you send to the unemployment line when Vick plays in week 3? Luckily, the Eagles have one week from today to figure this mess out.
