DeSean Jackson continued to dominate NFL defensive backs with 149 yards and a TD this week.
If injuries and age force the Eagles to truly rebuild their offense in the near future, they have a trio that can answer the call.
No McNabb. No Westbrook. No problem, for today.
Third year quarterback Kevin Kolb, second year wideout DeSean Jackson and rookie tailback Shady McCoy propelled the Eagles to a 34-14 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Kolb, making his second straight start in place of the injured Donovan McRib, went 24-of-34 for 327 yards and two touchdowns. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Kolb is the first QB in NFL history to throw for more than 300 yards in each of his first two starts.
In two starts, Kolb has thrown for 718 yards. He has been impressive and poised in the pocket. Granted, it’s only two games against below-average NFL defenses, but the third year signal caller from Houston has made plays when he needed to. He has been efficient and made the reads needed to limit mistakes.
Jackson demonstrated no signs of an injured groin that limited him in practice this week en route to a six-reception, 149-yard day, including a 64-yard touchdown.
McCoy, often running the Wildcat, posted a game high 84 yards on 20 carries, and found pay dirt for the first time in his young career.
More importantly, Shady showed the ability to make cuts and run the ball inside. With injuries to Brian Westbrook, he will likely be counted on a lot this year to carry the load and keep BWest 36 fresh.
If the Eagles need to move on from McNabb and Westbrook over the next couple of years, Kolb, McCoy and Jackson have shown they can still put points on the board.
