The Eagles main strength entering the season may now be the team’s biggest weakness thanks to injuries and suspensions.
Joselio Hanson has been suspended for four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy by taking a diuretic.
Cornerback and speedy kick returner Ellis Hobbs, acquired stolen from New England in a draft day trade, is out for the year due to a neck injury that will require surgery.
As if losing one DB isn’t bad enough, the Eagles will also be without nickle back Joselio Hanson who received a four game suspension due to taking a banned diuretic.
According to Les Bowen’s piece on Philly.com, the substance Joselio took is not a PED, rather it can be used to mask taking PEDs.
Joselio, his agent, Sheldon Brown and the NFLPA all seem to think the league is making an example out of Joselio.
Your DailyPhiladelphian has a strong affinity for Joselio and is in talks with the future Mrs. DailyPhiladelphian to name our first-born son after him. The fact is, however, that if Joselio did take a diuretic that is on the banned list, he deserves his suspension.
This now leaves the Eagles with starter Asante Samuel and Sheldon Brown; aren’t we glad we held onto Sheldon after all. I wonder if he’s going to finally get some more money for being the solid, healthy player he’s displayed the past few years.
As a result of the DB depletion, the team promoted Jake Ikgwuonu from the practice squad. A fourth round pick with first round talent before an injury, we’re excited to see what this guy has to offer. We just wish it wasn’t during such dire times in the Eagles secondary. And not when the team is about to face cool Philip Rivers.
