According to numerous reports, Eagles general manager Tom Heckert is in Cleveland at this hour to interview for the Browns vacant GM position.
The Browns recently hired Mike Holmgren as team grand poobah in charge of everything. While we question the hiring of Holmgren since the man was forced to give up GM duties while he was in Seattle, we can’t question the Browns interest in Heckert.
Tom Heckert is intervewing for the Browns GM job.
Under Heckert’s guidance, the Eagles have drafted well the last few years finding players like DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, LeSean McCoy, Brent Celek and Kevin Kolb. While Heckert doesn’t have the absolute final say in the eagles war room, Andy Reid leans very heavily on his GM.
Having said that, we question Heckert’s interest in Cleveland. That team was a total mess before a four game winning streak to end the season. Even with that, they have no QB and need help all over the field. While part of the allure may be building a team from the ground up, the fact is Heckert will not have final say with Holmgren in the picture.
A move to Cleveland is a lateral move, if that. Heckert would be better suited to wait for a situation in which he is a true GM. With his track record, that opportunity will come around sooner or later.
We doubt Heckert is leaving Philly. Since it’s an apparent lateral move, look for the Eagles to offer Heckert more money to stay in Philly. They’ve done it before and wee see that happening again.
Letting Heckert leave for the Browns makes no sense from the Eagles or Heckert’s perspective.

That’s great, except my name is not Sandra Rose.
