Haiti sustained a devastating earthquake this week.

In the midst of Sixers center Samuel Dalembert’s hottest streak of the season, he has a lot to worry about — namely his family and friends back in his homeland of Haiti which was decimated by an earthquake earlier this week.

Dalembert has stepped up to the plate in a major way in terms of money and, soon, his time.

Prior to last night’s game against the Sacramento Kings, Dalembert donated $100,000 to UNICEF. He also had pledged to match funds donated by fans in the concourse during last night’s game.

In addition, word comes that Dalembert is planning to go to Haiti when he gets border clearances to take a chartered flight  down there. He’ll distribute needed goods, help with the relief effort and come back.

According to the Inquirer, Dalembert said, “It’s easy to just give money and send stuff. But when the people see you there with them, especially the kids, you go see them and they recognize you. They see you over there, you make them feel much better talking to them . . . be there and helping out and give a little relief . . .

“If I could fly myself, I’d go over there after every practice.”

Kudos to Dalembert for remembering from where he came.
