According to ComcastSportsNet.com’s Jim Salisbury, Joe Blanton isn’t the only one receiving a long-term deal from the Phillies this week.

Salisbury is reporting that Shane Victorino will sign a three-year extension on Friday. Rumors of negotiations toward such a deal have been running around for a week.

The move makes sense for the Phillies for a number of reasons. First, he brings an intensity to the diamond that is starting to remind people of Lenny Dykstra. The Flyin’ Hawaiian hasn’t crashed through any walls yet, but he’s ready to battle anyone at anytime. He hits for average, has speed and will thrive in the six spot in the Phils lineup this year. He can also lead off if necessary.

Shane Victorino will be able to buy a round for the Bleacher Bums with his new three-year deal, which will be announced Friday.

In addition, with Jayson Werth scheduled to hit the free agent market after this year, the Phils couldn’t risk losing two all-star outfielders in consecutive years. Victorino, who just turned 29 in November, was scheduled to be a free agent after the 2011 season. His new deal keeps him here through 2012.

With outfielder Dominic Brown in the pipeline, it made more sense to lock up the centerfielder than Werth at this point.

Having said that, we’d be surprised if the Phils don’t lock up Werth during spring training this year. Replacing Raul Ibanez after the 2011 season with Brown would make more sense.
