Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins will marry his best friend — Johari Smith – today in a ceremony on the Cayman Islands.
If you had to pick one former or current teammate who would join Rollins’ bridal party, who would it be? Ryan Howard?
In the words of Harry the K, “Good guess…incorrect, however.” We all know those two supposedly have a big brother-little brother relationship, but not close enough to make Howard a groomsman.
Chase Utley? Another good guess, but wrong. Shane Victorino? Nah, he was at the Sixers game last night, although he’s been listed as an expected guest. (No word on whether or not Jon Gosselin will be his date.)
Try one Bobby Abreu. Yes, Abreu.
We were as shocked as you when reading that nugget in Dan Goss’ column earlier this week.
Bobby Abreu will serve as a groomsman for Jimmy Rollins in the Cayman Islands today.
Abreu and Rollins went through a lot of bad, frustrating seasons together in Philadelphia. For many years, they were our only bona fide all-stars. However, who would have pictured them being tight enough to remain close friends after Abreu left for the bright lights of New York and Los Angeles?
If only Rollins’ fiery attitude to be the best he can and win had rubbed off on Abreu, he may have had a true superstar career. He has that much talent, but has rarely tapped it.
In any event, your DailyPhiladelphian wishes Rollins the best today and every day with his bride. We’ll look for pictures on TMZ later today.
