Matt Stairs is taking his bat to San Diego.
While it’s hardly earth shattering news, former Phillies pinch hitter Matt Stairs will not return to Philadelphia next season. ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick tweets that Stairs has signed a minor league deal with the Padres.
In addition, Stairs has dropped 31 points using Nutrisystem, and his agent wants to get an endorsement deal for the old, balding slugger.
Stairs hit a paltry .194 with five homers in 103 at bats last year.
Although he only played one-plus years here, Stairs will forever be a part of Philly sports folklore due to his Game 4 HR against the Dodgers in the 2008 LCS that propelled the team to their first World Series appearance since 1993, and first championship since 1980.
