Roger Goodell’s decision to add life to the Pro Bowl is working out well for a lot of players who otherwise wouldn’t be playing in the game. Add Eagles Donovan McNabb and Quintin Mikell to that list.
Both players were added to the NFC roster since Drew Brees and Roman Harper will play in another lesser game the following week — the Super Bowl. I’m not sure what those are thinking pulling out of the prestigious Pro Bowl for a chance to play for the NFL Championship.
Eagles safety Quntin Mikell was added to the NFC Pro Bowl roster on Monday.
McNabb likely would have made the team anyway since Brett Favre never seems to have time for these games anymore. In fact, Favre pulled out of this year’s game, which means Tony Romo will get to make the trip, as well.
This marks McNabb’s sixth Pro Bowl appearance and we’re sure Jeff Lurie has no problem cutting a check for McNabb’s subsequent bonus.
Mikell makes his first appearance. While many question whether or not Mikell deserves the nod, the fact is these games are based on reputation, which is why he didn’t make the trip to Hawaii last year when he clearly had earned the spot. He’s getting his just due a year later.
The Pro Bowl will be held next Sunday in Miami, the site of Super Bowl XLIV. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.
For those keeping track at home, the Eagles now have nine players making the trip to Miami for the Pro Bowl: McNabb, Mikell, Leonard Weaver, Jason Peters, DeSean Jackson, Jon Dorenbos, Asante Samuel, Trent Cole and David Akers.
