Let’s put it out there at the start of this piece: Your DailyPhiladelphian was one of the first to lead the charge in calling for Allen Iverson to be elected an All-Star starter this year despite only having played a handful of games. I was elated when he was elected by the fans.
The honor wasn’t a reward for this season. Instead, it was to honor him for the tremendous career he has had.
There is a good chance Iverson will hang up the sneakers after this season. He’s getting older, is battling arthritis and has lost a step. He is still effective but his game is regressing and no other team has really jumped up to offer Iverson a spot. Hell, even the Knicks wouldn’t sign him. The friggin Knicks!!
Having said all of that, Allen Iverson better not be anywhere near Dallas during this weekend’s All-Star festivities.
Allen Iverson better not be anywhere near Dallas this weekend.
A.I. has missed the last week and change tending to his sick daughter. We don’t question his dedication to his daughter or her medical needs one bit. He is where he needs to be right now.
However, since he is not rejoining the team until after the All-Star break, he should remain with his daughter during the upcoming weekend. Showing up in Dallas for the game on Valentines Day would show a bit of selfishness on his part.
He would in effect tell Sixers fans that the team he plays for wasn’t as important as the All-Star game and the party scene that goes with it. In our view, all the goodwill he has created by practicing the right way, playing unselfish basketball and trying to teach the younger guys how to play with heart would go right out the window.
Stay home this weekend and spend it with your family, AI. Stay fresh and get ready to help the Sixers in the second half of the season.

As long as your daughter is okay, then you should be playing at the all star game, AI! That’s why we voted you in! Seems like it’s been a while since the sixers have had an all star and let me tell you it is not because of what this guy wrote that made you an all star.
a
Again, I was all for voting AI in as a starter. However, you can’t not play for your team fir two weeks and then show up at the All-Star game.
hey man u r so s t u p i d it wont show selfishness if he goes to all star game. as long as his daughter is ok-
plus that is noth the reason that i voted ai as an all star
but it was a good guess……..
allen iverson is still putting up some good numbers +
i want to see him play
Julio: I hear you and get what you are saying. I created a Facebook Group dedicated to getting AI elected to the All-Star game.
However, the man can’t not show up for his team and then miraculously be able to play during the All-Star game. Spend the extra time with his daughter. You can watch him play again starting next tuesday with the Sixers.
Also, he is putting up decent numbers, but they are not Allen-Iverson numbers. He’s in the twilight of his career.
Whether he plays in the all-star game or not Allen Iverson will always be a winner.
Excuse my ignorance, because I’m not in Philly, but what’s wrong with his daughter? I’ve never heard of anyone missing 6 days of work unless we’re talking about a really serious illness. Why haven’t we heard what illness she’s fighting. And if the illness is that serious, the idea of speculating as to whether he should play in the all star game is ridiculous.
