Donovan McNabb fielding trade calls.

The Eagles quarterback rumor mill has taken off in the last week and won’t calm down until one or two of their signal callers are in new towns. The biggest question surrounds Pro Bowler Donovan McNabb. Reports have said the Eagles need at least a first round pick to consider trading their franchise quarterback.

With that said, let’s see which teams might be in the running for McNabb based on need and draft position.

1. St. Louis (1-15) — No way in hell they trade this pick for McNabb, or consider flipping spots with the Eagles.
2. Detroit (2-14) — Matt Stafford.
3. Tampa Bay (3-13) — Interesting, but again, the Bucs don’t trade out of this spot for a 34-year-old QB.
4. Washington (4-12) — No. 5 isn’t staying in the division.
5. Kansas City (4-12) — Still paying for the Matt Cassell deal.
6. Seattle (5-11) — Again, an interesting thought, but Pete Carroll wants a young guy.
7. Cleveland (5-11) – Here’s our first real possibility as Tom Heckert and Mike Holmgren could use McNabb. And, trading from 7 to 24 to get a franchise QB might be something the Browns would at least consider. Holmgren did that to get Matt Hasselbeck in Seattle. Granted, Hasselbeck was much younger, but if the Browns want to win now, this is a potential solution.
8. Oakland (5-11) — Al Davis is still sucking JaMarcus Russell’s man boobs.
9. Buffalo (6-10) — The Bills could be players here, but are likely more interested in Michael Vick.
10.(T) Jacksonville (7-9) — Jack Del Rio has an adequate quarterback and needs help in other areas to save his job.
10.(T) Denver (from Chicago 7-9) — The Broncos have denied interest in McNabb. We don’t buy that for a second. Brain Dawkins is probably all over Josh McDaniels to inquire about McNabb, even if it means giving up this draft pick. The Broncos showed last year they are a QB away from contending.
12. Miami (7-9) — The Dolphins have invested second round picks on signal callers the last three years. They’re not dealing for Donovan.
13. San Francisco (8-8) — With two first round selections, the Niners have the means and motive to get McNabb. They are our favorite to make a run for No. 5.
14. Seattle (from Denver 8-8) — See No. 6.
15. New York Giants (8-8) — Sheli Manning has something McNabb doesn’t at this point — a ring.
16.(T) Tennessee (8-8) — Vince Young’s comeback last year takes the Titans out of the mix.
16.(T) San Francisco (from Carolina 8-8) — See No. 13.
18. Pittsburgh (9-7) – Ben Roethlisberger.
19.(T) Atlanta (9-7) — Matt Ryan.
19.(T) Houston (9-7) — Matt Schaub.
21. Cincinnati (10-6) — Carson Palmer.
22. New England (10-6) — Umm, no.
23. Green Bay (11-5) — Aaron Rodgers.
24. Philadelphia (11-5) — N/A.
25. Baltimore (9-7) — Our boy Joe Flacco.
26. Arizona (10-6) — A real possibility as Kurt Warner is back to bagging groceries and Matt Leinert sucks. McNabb has a home in Arizona. This is a natural fit.
27. Dallas (11-5) — Tony Romo.
28. San Diego (13-3) — Philip Rivers.
29. New York Jets (9-7) — Mark Sanchez.
30. Minnesota (12-4) — If Brett Favre retires, Brad Childress would certainly call Andy Reid. Would his mentor help him keep the Vikings ahead of the Eagles? Then again, this assumes that Favre decides to retire soon. Our guess is Brett holds the Vikings hostage just long enough to see McNabb moved elsewhere if he is indeed traded.
31. Indianapolis (14-2) – Hell no!
32. New Orleans (13-3) — Only if Philly reaches 100 inches of snow in one year. Oh, wait … better just change that to to a solid “not happening.”
