In the ongoing sea-saw of media reports that will come out prior to the Feb. 18 trade deadline, the Cavs-Suns proposed trade involving Ama’re Stoudemire is now forcing other teams to up their offers.
According to ESPN.com’s Chris Broussard, Andre Iguodala is still the apple of the Suns’ eye. Ed Stefanski apparently doesn’t want to part with Iguodala.
Look, we actually understand Stefanski’s reluctance. Iggy is not as bad as he’s been made out to be this year. He is a serviceable player who would thrive as the second fiddle on a team with a superstar. However, he is grossly overpaid for that role.
That is why Stefanski needs to make the deal. You are getting a big-time inside presence and can move Thaddeus Young to the 3.
Worst case scenario, Stoudemire comes here and voids his deal at the end of the year, opening up cap space in the process.
Best case, Stoudemire loves the city and opts to stay here. That may entice other free agents to consider coming to Philly and the Sixers have the pieces and draft pick to do a sign-and-trade deal.
