Allen Iverson rejoined the Sixers today after nearly a two week absence due to his daughter’s health. Phil Jasner reported on Philly.com that AI practiced and is expected to play Tuesday night against the Heat, although coach Eddie Jordan did not guarantee Iverson a starting spot.
Allen Iverson is back with the Sixers after missing the last two weeks to tend to his daughter.
With the way the team played before the break and the fact that Iverson hasn’t played, it’s not a surprise. Iverson, though, is more concerned about his daughter than starting, as he should be.
“That is so far from my mind right now,” Iverson told Jasner. “That’s the last thing that I’m thinking about. We’ve got to do what’s best for the team.”
Iverson did not discuss what his daughter is suffering from other than to indicate she would be seeing a doctor at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, one of the best pediatric facilities in the nation.
Many people have wondered what was ailing his daughter that would keep AI away from the team for such an extended period. The question had to be asked. However, now that it has been, we hope the media respects the Iverson’s privacy.
AI has always been a warrior and never missed a game when he was able to go. He’s often rushed back from injury and truly plays as if “every game is his last.”
The fact that he missed the last two weeks and the All-Star game is all we need to know to realize how serious the medical condition of his daughter must be. There is no need to rehash this, especially since AI is back.
