Finicky. Driven. Winner.

Cole Hamels is all of the above. He often acts like a prima donna and appears aloof at times. However, the guy who was the talk of the town a year ago just wants one thing every time he takes the mound — exit with a ‘W.’

Cole Hamels looks to bounce back from a subpar 2009 campaign.

Last year, Hamels entered spring training not in the best of shape. By his own admission, he spent too much time basking in the glow of the World Series MVP trophy next to his bed. As a result of poor preparation, Hamels was injured early in spring training and never got back into his normal groove. Remember, he is finicky and if something goes wrong, he has trouble refocusing.

This offseason, he rededicated himself to going through his normal offseason routine. He’s also working on mastering another pitch or two to add to his repetoire. it’s very, very early, but the reviews in spring training have been high so far.

Look for Hamels to bounce back. To the skeptics, give the man a chance. He’s earned that much by doing something no other athlete’s done in this city in 25 years — delivering a parade down Broad Street.
