Happ solid in exhibition opener, Aumont gets torched

A four month layoff had no impact on Phillies starter JA Happ who tossed two scoreless innings in the Fightins exhibition opener against Florida State, the third ranked team in the nation. Happ, the 2009 Sporting News Rookie of the Year, went two innings, giving up one hit, one walk and striking out one batter.

Phillippe Aumont, the top guy the Mariners sent the Phils in the Cliff Lee deal got lit up like the Vegas Strip — against a college team. FSU may be one of the top D-I schools, but they are still a college squad.

Aumont walked two batters and gave up a single to load the bases. A wild pitch and three run homer later, and the Seminoles oVVned Aumont and the Phils, 4-0.

Phillippe Aumont got lit up in his Phillies debut.

Aumont’s final line: 2/3 IP, 2H, 6 ER (two given up by Flande after Aumont left game), 3 BB.

While this was Aumont’s first game and he still has a big upside, the fact is Phillies fans will jump all over Ruben Amaro for trading Lee for a guy who pitched a putrid game against a college team. Like it or not, Ruben, Aumont and Lee will forever be linked. As will Jason Knapp and Aumont.
