Rumors have been running around the Internet the last couple of days concerning a possible reunion between Jeff Garcia and the Eagles. According to Les Bowen of the Daily News, Garcia would only return if Michael Vick is moved so that the Birds could draft another signal caller in the later rounds and groom him a la an AJ Feeley. Also, the team doesn’t want two former Pro Bowlers behind new starter Kevin Kolb.

While the move may make sense on the outside, the fact is Jeff Garcia should not don midnight green next year.

Jeff Garcia is the wrong move for the 2010 Eagles.

First, the guy started last year with the Raiders before being released. The guy couldn’t beat out JaMarcus Russell or Brad Gradkowski. That alone should let us know he has nothing left.

Additionally, most people will point back to his one year in Philly when he took over for an injured Donovan McNabb in 2006 and led the team to the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Granted, Garcia played out of his mind and displayed solid leadership.

However, to bring him in now for veteran leadership is a bit far fetched. First, he’s been out of football for all intents and purposes for more than a year. Second, there is virtually nobody left on offense from when Garcia was here. DeSean Jackson, Jeremey Maclin, Brent Celek, LeSean McCoy and others were in college or high school. Jamaal Jackson and Todd Herremans were the only linemen with the team.

Any impact Garcia would have would be negligible. You need a backup who can actually play in the event Kolb gets hurt or sucks. Garcia isn’t that guy.

The team would be better off to bring in a Marc Bulger.
