Redskins want Brian Westbrook

Could the best QB-RB combo in Eagles history don the burgandy and gold of the Washington Redskins next year?

If Mike Shanahan has his way they could. According to tweets from NFL guru Adam Schefter, Shanahan says the Redskins want Westbrook and an offer has been made.

Rumblings in recent weeks have indicated that the Skins offer doesn’t include enough guaranteed money for BWest. However, if Westbrook wants to be on an NFL field this year, he should consider the offer.

The Broncos have indicated they are going in a different direction. The Rams play on turf, not a great surface for a player with knee and ankle issues.

No other NFL team has kicked Westbrook’s tires yet.

The fact that Shanahan and, to an extent, Donovan McNabb are pushing for Westbrook indicates that the Redskins don’t have faith in their trio of older backs — Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson and Willie Parker.

Portis will make the squad. However, LJ and Parker are in the twilights of their careers, much like Westbrook.

BWest will need to be healthy, but he could very well contribute in DC this year. Shanahan has a history of putting his backs in a position to make plays.

The Redskins likely give Westbrook the best shot to continue his career.
