The drive to see the Phillies most hyped prospect since Ryan Howard just got shorter. Domonic Brown, the five-tool, can’t-miss, blue chip outfield prosepct is moving up to Triple A Lehigh Valley. Yes, the man is now an IronPig.
No doubt Allentown will be sold out when Brown makes his debut, which has not yet been decided. Actually, as of this minute, he’s still in Double A. But, a move is lkely to be made soon.
The time to do this is right. Let’s see if Brown can replicate the .318 average, 15 homers, 47 RBI and 16 doubles he put up at Reading.
Superprospect Dominic Brown is heaed to Lehigh Valley after hitting .318 with 15 homers already at Reading.
If he can do that for the IronPigs, maybe the team does have the man to take Jayson Werth’s spot in rightfield. If they do, maybe they move Werth for the starting pitcher they are seeking and let John Mayberry finish the season out in rightfield.
That’s not to say the Phillies should move Werth; it’s strictly a thought.
In any event, with Brown being promoted, this could signal Mayberry being caled up to at least DH this weekend and possibly platoon with Raul Ibanez or Jayson Werth in the near future. If Mayberry shows something, that could be the spark that gets Ruben Amaro talking to teams about Werth, especially if he thinks he can’t resign the All-Star outfielder.
Moving Brown up the organizational chain now gives the Phils a month to assess the situation before the trade deadlne.
Who wants to carpool to Allentown?
