Jamie Moyer is killing me. There are only so many creative ways you can write a lede for a 47-year-old pitcher who’s playing like an ace and setting longevity records.

He did it again on Sunday, tossing seven innings of six hit baseball and surrendering just two earned runs. Moyer ran his record to 9-6 on the year, tying Roy Halladay for the team lead in wins. It’s the fifth time in his last six starts he’s allowed two or less earned runs. He’s allowed more than four earned runs just once in his last ten games.

Moyer’s only mistake was a two-run homer to Vernon Wells in the third inning. That homer was the 506th of Moyer’s career, the most of any pitcher in baseball history. Moyer also recorded his 4,000th inning in a big league uniform.

Jamie Moyer celebrates giving up the 506th home run of his career on Sunday. The ageless one also pitched his 4,000th career inning.

The Phillies continued to give Moyer run support, putting up 11 by the time he had left, including six unearned runs thanks to four Blue Jays errors.

Moyer has one game left, July 2 at Pittsburgh, before the All-Star teams are announced. Another strong outing by him, and Charlie manuel will need to include him on the All-Star team. He’s pitched that good. If he goes to Anaheim, he’ll become the oldest player in MLB All_Star game history. Satchel Paige holds the record at 47 years and seven days old. Moyer has Paige beat with a few more days.
