It didn’t take long for Kevin Kolb to jump into the hot seat previously occupied by No. 5. For a decade, Eagles fans scrutinized Donovan McNabb’s every move. It wasn’t anything personal; that’s just the life of an NFL quarterback.

As the QB goes, the team goes. The same fate awaits Kevin Kolb, and NFL.com did the first year starter no favors when Pat Kirwan put him at the top of the list of the 16 players who will be on in the spotlight this year.

Kevin Kolb tops NFL.com's list of players on the hot seat this season. He needs to cut down his interception tendancies.

Kirwan’s assessment: “Kolb replaces Donovan McNabb, who moved down I-95 to Washington and is positioned to haunt the Eagles and Kolb. Philadelphia is a rough town and any sign of weakness will be pounced on by the fans and media. In two career starts, Kolb has completed 55 of 85 passes for four touchdowns, seven interceptions and five sacks. His tendency to throw interceptions (he threw one every 12 pass attempts) is the first issue he has to correct.”

The analysis is spot on. He does need to correct his interception tendencies. Say what you will about McNabb, but he rarely turned the ball over. I’ve contended that, for better or worse, we knew what we had in McNabb. Kolb is an unknown. What’s done is done, and I’m behind Kolb now. Having said that, the boos will cascade down if Kolb throws picks with the fervor of a Brett Favre.

Kevin Kolb is now the starter for a perennial playoff team and he is in the spotlight.
