BREAKING NEWS: Evan Turner will lead the Sixers summer league squad into action in Orlando next week.
OK, that’s far from earth shattering news.
Turner, the second overall pick in last week’s NBA Draft, will take time off from his busy schedule of baseball game appearances and see his first action as an NBA player in Orlando. Joining him on the Sixers squad will be last year;s top pick Jrue Holiday, and 2008 top selection Marresse Speights.
Speights has stated his desire to improve and attended a stud camp in Las Vegas recently. The third year forward must improve defensively, especially in terms of boxing out and crashing the boards. We’ll get our first glimpse of Speights shortly.
Turner and Holiday are being billed as the backcourt of the future. We’ll get our first look at these two guys as they work to learn each other’s games and gel together.
Jrue Holiday won't face Rondo next week, but he'll still get to improve his NBA game during summer league action in Orlando.
Other additions to the team of note include second year guard Jodi Meeks and Temple’s Ryan Brooks.
Meeks is one to keep an eye on. We loved his athleticism and energy, especially on defense last season when he actually saw the floor. Personally, we see another Aaron McKie type player in that Meeks will do whatever is asked of him.
He can score when needed, but doesn’t have to be the guy. He is going to be a very key bench player for the foreseeable future. Could he evolve into an NBA Sixth Man of the Year like McKie?
