Ryan Howard is finding his power at the right time, Unfortunately, nobody is getting his back.
On Sunday night, Howard hit his 243rd career homer, tied for fourth in Phils history with Chuck Klein. The homer marked Howard’s fourth in as many games at Wrigley Field this week.
Yet, the Phillies only one one game in the four-game series. Oh, and the game they won was the only one in which Howard didn’t go yard.
Ryan Howard is hitting the ball long and hard, but he needs some help.
It’s kind of ironic that Howard’s lack of power numbers — he only had 18 homers at the break, the nerve — was one major reason fans cited for the Phillies lack of success this year. Yet, when he does hit, the Phils lose. When he didn’t, they won.
Don’t get it twisted. Howard needs to hit the ball long and hard for the Phillies to go anywhere. He is the catalyst. Still, it’d be nice if Howard’s teammates had his back and produced in front of and behind him in the order.
