The Eagles have reportedly dealt a future sixth round pick for guard Reggie Wells, who’s started 90 straight games for Arizona. How much impact does this move have on the Eagles 2010 season?
While not a Pro Bowler, Wells isn’t bad and could very well be an upgrade over what the Eagles have. If Reid and Howie Roseman didn’t think so, they wouldn’t have made this deal. Look, Kurt Warner was never a stud quarterback if you hit him. The fact is, Warner had two great years in Arizona, including a Super Bowl appearance in which they were a Santonio Holmes miracle from winning it all.
Reggie Wells joins the Eagles after starting the last 90 games at guard for the cardinals. The move was necessitated by the sucky play of Stacey Andrews.
Wells, a 2003 sixth round pick, isn’t the main reason Warner looked good, but he was part of it. He was a member of a decent o-line. The team signed Alan Faneca this offseason, which made Welles expendable. The 29-year-old measures 6-4, 314 pounds and is signed through the end of this season.
While we see him as the evenetual starter, Eagles public relations reporter Dave Spadaro, whom we generally respect, indicates that acquiring Wells simply gives the Eagles options. Thanks, Captain Obvious.
The reason the team made this move is simple: Stacy Andrews sucks. He has since before he inked a deal with the Eagles. If Andrews was half the player he proclaims, the deal for Wells isn’t necessary. His contract, which is larger than his waistline and ego, is the only thing keeping him on the team this year.
Wells will be in a position to start this year. He’ll be an improvement.
Now, can we get someone to take over for Jason “Penalty Flag” Peters?
