Don’t expect the Eagles to hand anyone with the last name of Andrews a big contract and signing bonus anytime soon. Shawn and Stacy have pretty much ruined the reputation for Andrews across Cheesesteak Land.

The day the Eagles acquired Reggie Wells from the Cardinals for a 6th round pick, Stacy Andrews decided to open his mouth for something other than eating.

Howie (Roseman, the general manager) reassured me I would be the guy at right guard,” Andrews told the Philly.com. “I wouldn’t have signed (the reworked deal) to be the third guy.”

Stacy Andrews obviously hasn't spent his $4.1 million roster bonus to upgrade his wardrobe.

Andrews was referring to last offseason when the team and “player” reworked his deal signed just a year ago. The restructuring allowed Stacy to retain his $4.1 million roster bonus, while dropping his salary to $900,000 this year. When reworking his contract, he also said he would take a pay cut but needed to retain his roster bonus. So, it was all about the money, not the starting spot.

There are two concerns here in regards to Andrews’ comments yesterday.

First, nobody in the National Football League is handed a starting job. You have to, you know, actually earn it. Andrews hasn’t. It’s really that simple. Last year, he was handed the starting gig and promptly lost it because his footwork sucks for the Eagles blocking scheme. Andrews and the Eagles tried to tell us he played poorly because he wasn’t fully recovered from ACL surgery. OK, well, that was nearly two years ago so now he’s out of excuses. Yet, he still wants to make them. Forget the fact that Jamaal Jackson had the same injury last year and is already back. Just sayin’…

Secondly, does Andrews really think anyone was going to just hand him a bonus better that what the Eagles paid him? Coming off the injury and season he had, he’d have been lucky to get half of that bonus.

Andrews needs to just shut his mouth and collect his paycheck. If he thinks he can really play and deserves to retain the starting spot, there’s one way to do that — earn it on the field.
