Phillies clinch a playoff spot … ho hum

The Padres lost today, meaning the Phillies have clinched a playoff spot. Yes, they are assured of the Wild Card spot. Ho hum is all we say to that.

Seriously, if you’re on a train to DC and clinch a wild card spot, does it really count?

Rumor has it that Jayson Werth and Chase Utley were playing a mean game of Texas Hold 'Em en route to clinching a playoff birth aboard an Amtrak train Sunday afternoon.

The Phillies will win the division and clinch home field advantage throughout the playoffs when all is said and done.

When Doc Halladay clinches the division with a win over the Nationals on Monday, we’ll start to care. Leave the celebration of wild card spots to the Padres, Braves and Giants — three teams who won’t sniff the World Series.
