When Heidi Hamels sent young Colebert out to ACE Hardware for a new kitchen broom, this wasn’t what she had in mind. Somehow, he ended up in Cincinnati ready to sweep the crumb bum Reds out of the playoffs, much to the chagrin of crybabies Orlando Cabrera and Scott Rolen.

Hamels, the third of the Phillies three aces, heads to the mound today to send the Phillies to a 3-0 sweep over the Reds and to a third straight NLCS appearance. This is the moment the 2008 and 2010 Hamels lives for. Gone are the memories of a disappointing 2009 campaign.

Sure, the Reds head home for Game 3, but do they really have a chance? A team that was no-hit in Game 1 by Doc Halladay, and then choked after knocking around Roy Oswalt in Game 2 certainly can’t have much confidence. Or can they?

Cole Hamels looks to send the Phillies to their third straight NLCS on Sunday night.

Based on the way the Phils have been far from dominant with their bats, they could be in for a battle based on the pitching matchups.

Hamels is opposed by Johnny Cueto who was 12-7 with a 3.67 ERA this year. The man with the flat-brimmed hat has actually been a pain in the Phillies a$$es this year going 1-0 with a studly 1.20 ERA in two starts this year.

Then again, the Reds hitters haven’t fared better against Hamels. In his lone start this year — which just happened to have been at your DailyPhiladelphian’s bachelor party — Hamels tossed 7.2 innings of shutout ball and the Phils posted a 1-0 win.For his career, hamels is 5-5 with a 2.96 ERA against the Reds.

This will be a pitcher’s duel, but the Phillies just have their October mojo back and should be bringing the brooms back with them.

As Scott Rolen once said to the Philly media, “Sorry about your luck,” Cincy.
