What a great lesson for the young people in the nation. If you smoke pot in the winter, not only do you not get suspended by Major League baseball, but you can still win game 1 of the NLCS against the favored Phillies.
In fairness, Lincecum did pitch well, but his teammate Cody Ross gave him a lead to pitch with by going yard against Doc Halladay twice. Lincecum gave up three runs in six innings, besting Halladay’s four runs in seven innings.
Cody Ross thanks the Big Man above following one of his two homers in the Giants, 4-3 win Saturday night.
Ross went yard in the third, which Carlos Ruiz matched in the bottom half of the inning to knot the score at one.
Ross then homered in the fifth to put the Giants up, 2-1, and they never looked back. In the sixth, old friend Pat Burrell knocked in Posey. Then Juan Uribe drove in Schierholtz to give San Fran a 4-1 lead.
Jason Werth made another free agent statement with a two run shot in the bottom of the sixth, but the Phillies lineup couldn’t muster any more firepower together.
Phillies hitters had just seven hits all night, and that’s not nearly enough to win an NLCS contest.
Game 2 takes place Sunday night as Roy Oswalt will try to get the Fightins back in the win column against Jonathan Sanchez.
