Claude Giroux is quickly becoming one of the best, young players in hockey. In 12 games this season, Giroux has 12 points, 7 goals and 5 assists, to lead the 7-4-1 Flyers in scoring.
The Flyers are in the midst of a four game winning streak, paced by the consistent scoring of Claude Giroux. With Danny Briere serving the first game of his three game suspension tonight, Giroux stepped up, adding one of three goals for the Flyers on Tuesday. Hartnell added the other two.
Bobrovsky has been magnificent during the win streak, going 4-0, and allowing only 8 goals. But still, the best player on the ice during each of these past four games, has been Giroux. He is fast, skilled, and smart. He can shoot, he can skate, and he can deke. He can score from in close, and from far away. He can pass and create with the best of them. But when he is most impressive, is when he is playing on the penalty kill, as Giroux leads the entire NHL with 3 short-handed goals already.
Claude Giroux is becoming a flat out star for the Flyers. He will be the one to lead this team for the next decade.
In his first full season in the NHL last year, Giroux finished with 47 points, including 16 goals. However, he showed flashes of greatness during the Flyers historic 2010 postseason run. In 23 playoff games last season, Giroux tallied 21 points (10G and 11A), and was one of the teams more dominant and consistent players throughout the memorable postseason.
This year Giroux, barring injury, will easily score 30 goals. This kid is a flat out star. And as the Flyers continue to succeed and contend for the Cup, at age 22, the 5-foot, 11-inch, 172-pound Canadian hockey player, named Claude Giroux, will become one of your favorite Philadelphia athletes. I promise.
