Playmakers. When you have them, you can smoke a team on any given play. The Eagles have so many weapons, that someone is bound to bust it to the end zone when it’s least expected.

Sunday night, it was Shady McCoy’s turn to dazzle. And, it was Andy Reid who put him in a position to make the play.

Shady McCoy lets the Giants know he burnt them for a 50-yard TD and the lead on Sunday night. McCoy had 111 yards on just 14 carries.

Trailing 17-16 with about four minutes left in the game, the Eagles faced a 4th-and-one at the 50. Reid did the complete opposite of what his gut instinct normally is. He went for it.

Michael Vick took an errant snap from center and pitched it to McCoy who hauled a$$ to paydirt. Vick then found Jason Avant on the two-point try to give the Eagles a 24-17 lead. They added an Akers field goal to finish with a 27-17 win.

While DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Vick all turned in their usual big-play performances, it was McCoy who ended as the hero. He managed to rack up 111 yards on just 14 carries. Even without the 50-yard run, he still averaged more than 4.5 yards per carry.

While Shady gets the credit, make no mistake that having Vick behind center set that play up. Everyone from the fans in South Philly to Allen Iverson’s posse in Turkey was ready for Vick to keep the ball. But, that’s why it pays to have more than just one playmaker. No matter who you key in on, someone else is ready to step up.

The Giants found out the hard way. The Eagles now control their destiny in the NFC East as they hold a one-game lead over the Giants.
