The Eagles “are going to have to do something.” — DeSean Jackson discussing his contract situation on the T.Ocho Show on VH1.
Is that really news to anyone? Is it? Shoudn’t be.
DeSean Jackson, the Eagles potently fast wideout put the NFL on notice that he wanted more money when he hired Drew Rosenhaus as his agent last season. Anyone who thinks his statements to fellow Rosenhaus clients Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco is news is sadly mistaken.
DeSean Jackson says the Eagles "are going to have to do something about his contract." They will.
We all know he wants a new deal. We all know he deserves a new deal. And, by everyone, we include the Eagles brass in that statement.
The problem is that the NFL doesn’t know what the rules will be as afar as salary caps after this year. A lockout is looming. Even DeSean knows that.
According to the Inquirer, a preview clip has DJacc saying as much:
“We’ve talked so far with my agent, Drew [Rosenhaus], and the Eagles. We’re just seeing how it can go now. The 30-percent rule, the [CBA] and all that, and the new year coming up next year and us being locked out, there’s a lot of ins and outs that go into it.”
He later said his actions on the field show he deserves more than the second round deal he signed upon entering the league.
“It is what it is, but they’re going to have to do something, because the way I’m out there putting it in something’s got to happen, man,” he said.
Anybody who disagrees with that statement or thinks the Eagles don’t side with DJacc hasn’t been watching football. The Eagles do pay in special circumstances. They gave Brian Westbrook a new deal even though he was 30. Something tells me, DJacc is a special circumstance and once the new CBA is figured out, DJacc will get paid.
