Athletes spewing cliches giving other players credit for helping them achieve great things all the time. Running backs always credit the lineman as do quarterbacks.
Michael Vick didn’t sound like the typical guy on Mike & Mike in the morning on ESPN Radio on Friday. He discussed how he realized he had to put in more work and effort to develop into a true quarterback, not a running guy behind center.
The man who leads the NFL in Pro Bowl balloting gave credit to the Eagles coaches and others for helping him become a truly great signal caller. He credited the players around him as well as Andy Reid, Tony Dungy and Roger Goodell.
The fact that he credited Goodell and Dungy makes me thing he is sincere when he is giving others credit. He realizes without their support, he is not in an NFL uniform right now.
With some of the comments he’s made this year, including to DeSean Jackson about celebrating TDs this week, this sounds like a guy who gets “it.” Granted, he is trying to rehab his image. Still, there’s the typical athlete-speak. And, there’s sincerity. This sounds like the latter.
