To look good on paper is one thing. To do it on the rubber is another. So far, the Phillies Aces are as striking as a supermodel on the beach.
The Fightins top three guns have combined to strike out 23 (six apiece for Halladay and Oswalt, 11 for Lee) and walk just one (thanks, Oswalt) over a combined 19 innings in their opening weekend series against the Astros.
The Phillies Aces are as advertised, allowing just 14 hits and one walk, while striking out 23 over 19 innings this weekend.
They’ve also surrendered a total of 14 hits and just six earned runs over the first three games. Oh, yeah, the Phillies hitters put up 14 hits themselves on Saturday alone.
Before we get too excited, remember this is the Astros and it won’t be this easy against more lethal lineups. Still, most teams in baseball really do suck these days and teams may want to seriously consider saving money by just leaving their bats at home.
At least the New York fans get lucky in that their Mets come to town after the first three have thrown. Their prize: Cole Hamels and Doc Halladay in a three game series.
Man, it really just isn’t far, is it?

Thier ERA vs the worst team around, at home, was 3.30. NOT good. Dumb Philly people with stupid hype.
