It wasn’t convincing and surely won’t end the feeling that the Sixers lost their midseason mojo, but they ended a three-game losing streak with a 98-93 win over the hapless Toronto raptors on Friday at the Well.
Elton Brand dropped a team-high 22 points and eight boards, while Jrue Holiday added a double-double with 13 points and 11 dimes.
The win helps the Sixers keep pace with the Knicks, who hold a half-game lead for the sixth slot in the East. It also can’t help but give the Sixers a bit more confidence as they wind down the season against the Magic on Monday and Detroit on Wednesday at home.
Thaddeus Young and the Sixers dropped the raptors on Friday to end a three-game losing streak.
Additionally, it was good to see Andre Iguodala start to get out of his funk with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting. And, Evan Turner logged quality minutes again as he had 10 points, three boars, two dimes and two steals in 30 minutes on Friday. He also had a couple of highlight worthy plays including a nice behind the back dribble that ended with a pass to a streaking Jodie Meeks.
One more win guarantees a winning record for a squad that started the year 3-13. Following last year’s debacle under Rich Kotite Eddie Jordan, the Sixers should be proud of how far they’ve come.
Still, closing the season on a winning note is a must heading into the playoffs. A week ago, the possibility of upsetting Boston or Miami was real. After their recent slide and the Heat and Celtics winning ways, however, that possibility has seemingly vanished.
A win over Orlando Monday would go a long way toward giving us hope again.
