Hope Jayson Werth enjoyed doubling his homer and RBI totals and nabbing his first stolen base of the year, while boosting his average .037 points Tuesday against his old teammates. It won’t be this easy every time.
Werth had probably his best moments as a National in helping the team down the division-leading Phillies, 7-4, on Tuesday. Werth had two hits, including a double and a solo homer, walked once and crossed the plate twice. Of course, he did it against Joe Blanton.
(Photo courtesy of USA Today) Jayson Werth had two hits, including a solo homer, as the Nationals dropped the Phillies on Tuesday. Next up? Doc and Clifton.
Blanton, an innings-eater who is usually solid if not spectacular, had his second subpar game to start the season. He gave up five runs on seven hits in six innings. His ERA sits at 10.45 on the season.
But, tonight was about Werth who left Philly for a seven-year, $126 million deal this winter. Booed often and loudly in his own stadium, the guy who texted Ruben Amaro and called him a jackass upon signing Cliff Lee was obviously amped for this game which he clearly had circled on his calendar.
The next two nights will be different. Werth will still by geeked up to face his firend Cliff Lee and former teammate Doc Halladay. But, Halladay and Lee aren’t Blanton. Not even close.
Hey, Jayson, you got to our fifth starter. Well done. You’re still two games out of first just ten games into the year. Good luck, bro.
