Brian Boucher may have been the right call after all, regular season be damned. The veteran goalie played solidly, turning away 35 of 37 shots to lead the Orange and Black to a 4-2 win and a 2-1 series lead.
And, with the team being outshot 37-26, Boucher needed to play his best to give Peter Laviolette’s squad a shot.
Flyers goalie Brian Boucher turned away 35 shots in the team's 4-2 win over the Sabres in Buffalo on Monday.
Kimmo Timonen had a hell of a game, scoring an empty net goal and ended the nigh with a plus-3.
Jeff carter got the scoring started with a first-period goal. Danny Briere and Nikolav Zherdev added second period goals to give the Flyers a 3-2 lead after two periods.
Boucher was the right choice for tonight, and maybe this series. The fact is, he’s done this before for the Flyers, including last year in the playoffs. Remember, Boucher took over for Michael Leighton in the Boston series, before injuring his knee, allowing Leighton to reclaim his job in net.
The Flyers and Sabres next hit the ice on Wednesday.
