According to tweets from Howard Eskin and piggyback reporter Jeff McLane, Eagles stud wideout DeSean Jackson is set to report to Eagles camp by Monday morning.
Eskin tweeted, “DeSean Jackson: he’s coming to camp. I’m told absolutely, positively he will b in camp on Monday morning. This is it. Djax will be back.”
DeSean Jackson is set to report to Eagles camp by Monday.
This doesn’t shock us. As we speculated yesterday, Jackson needs to be in by August 9, or he could lose a year of service toward free agency.
Jeff Lurie said this week the eagles don’t negotiate with players not in camp. The Eagles know they need to do something with Jackson’s contract. The Pro Bowler is making nearly $600,000 in the last year of his rookie deal. This is a special player, and the Eagles have shown an interest in extending special players under contract — see Westbrook, Brian.
Look for new deals with Vick and Jackson to be announced before Labor Day. Once the Eagles reach a deal with Vick that likely decreases his cap number this year, they can give Jackson a raise.
