Phils grab win no. 73. Hunter Pence earns phrase #letsgoeat with another bomb. Vance Worley continues to keep himself in Rookie of the Year contention with his eighth win.
But the big story on Action News is Shane Victorino once again displaying the ability to be a UFC superstar. We’ve seen it before, but on Friday night, Victorino was hit with a pitch in the top of the sixth inning by Ramon Ramirez who was imploding on the mound. Victorino then sauntered a few steps toward the mound to make a point. Then, all hell broke lose. As Victorino told Philly.com:
Shane Victorino took issue with Ramon Ramirez after the Giants wuss beaned the All-Star outfielder with a 92 mph fastball Friday.
“I just wanted to go out there and get an answer,” Victorino said. “I had no intentions of charging the mound. I did step forward. Obviously Eli [Whiteside] thought I was going to go and he started jumping around. [Placido] Polanco came in and he tackled Polanco and everything escalated from there.”
So, this was Polanco’s fault? In any event, Victorino then snapped and fought his way back into the madness.
Props to coffeesnipes for the video.
Jimmy Rollins is seen shoving a Giants coach. Bullpens empty. Even Pat Burrell rushed off the bench, a likely suspension as he is on the DL and not allowed to leave the bench. The Phillies beat down the Giants in the fight and in the game, pulling out a 9-2 win.
