Win 100 all but assured for Phillies

If you listened to Jimmy Rollins’ predication and bet the house on the Phillies to win 100 games this season, you can throw the cardboard boxes away. You won’t be moving.

With their 9-2 beat down of the Giants on Friday, the Phillies and the Four Aces notched win no. 73. With 50 games remaining, the Phillies need to go 27-23 down the stretch to hit the century mark.

Four games over .500. That’s all that’s needed now. You could throw the Reading Phillies out there for all of September and the Fightins will likely hit 100. Yeah, the Fightins are making it rain like Fat Joe in a club.

Face the facts, the regular season is locked up. An 8.5-game lead in the division over the Braves. And, even should the unthinkable happen and the Phils falter a bit, they hold an 11.5-game lead for the Wild Card.

The real danger down the road as Labor Day approaches is that the Phillies will have a month with nothing on the line. They may not feel the push to win, might rest some guys for extended periods of time during September call-ups.

Seriously, unless this team is in position to set the all-time record for wins in a season — and they’d need to go 43-7 just to tie it — what is there on the line throughout September?

On one hand, it’ll be good to get Dom Brown back up and in the lineup in preparation for next year. Might even be good to see what Freddy Galvis can do in the event Jimmy Rollins isn’t back.

At the same time, this team is clicking so well right now, do you want to interrupt that too much? It’ll be a fine line for Charlie Manual to walk.

Then again, that’s a discussion for another day. For now, the focus is clearly on 100.

27-23. Four games above .500. That’s all that’s needed.

The focus should be on 102 or 103 (the team record is 101, and 103 keeps you below 60 losses). If they only win 100 I will be worried about the playoffs.

LOL. I think 105 is within reach. Wish playoffs were today with groove they’re in.
