Just when the Eagles didn’t need anymore bad news along the offensive line, it hits them quicker than Hurricane Irene could chug up the coast. Ryan Harris, the talented tackle signed from the Broncos, has a herniated disc and will undergo surgery in the next week according to Comcast SportsNet.
While the offense has playmakers all over the place, including the deepest receiving and running back groups in the division and maybe in the NFL, the offensive line is extremely shaky. They haven’t been able to protect Michael Vick’s blindside. With rookie Danny Watkins likely the starting guard and fellow rookie Jason Kelce could start at center, the Eagles need to stabilize the rest of the line.
Joselio Hanson is likely to be dealt this week and Ryan Harris is set to undergo the knife. The Eagles preseason hasn't been boring.
Harris played well in the first series of the preseason when the Eagles marched down the field against the Ravens. Injuries have kept him out since then. Now, the Eagles need to hope Winston Justice returns from his knee injury and regains the form that got him an extension during the 2009 season.
On the other side of the ball, the Eagles depth at corner is likely to lead Joselio Hanson to a new team. Reuben Frank is reporting on CSNPhilly.com that Hanson could be had for a fifth round pick.
While Hanson was a nice nickle back for the Birds, the fact remains that he won’t play much as the fourth guy behind Nnamdi Asomugha, Asante Samuel and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Also, he hasn’t been as good as he was before his Chinese buffet outing before the NFC Championship Game three years ago.
