A year ago, Jeff Lurie won an Oscar. It could have been two awards in a row for the Eagles organization had new left guard Evan Mathis finished what he started.

CSNPhilly.com’s Ray Didinger has an awesome write up today on how the Birds newest offensive line addition spent his free time this winter when locked out and wondering if he’d get another crack at the NFL. (He did play for three teams in six years, including the poorest run team in the NFL — the Bungals).

Evan Mathis has an Oscar-winning idea, but needs money, time and motivation to finish it.

Mathis set out to work on a documentary detailing the owners-players feud from a guy with a vested interest in the outcome. He had completed interviews with the likes of Chad Ochocinco and Drew Rosenhaus.

The player/film maker says he never completed the project — for which he even developed a trailer — because he ran out of cash and he got bored with it.

“We couldn’t raise enough money to finish it,” Mathis told Didinger. “The subject got old really quick. The fans were sick of it. Even I was tired of it. It got to a point where it was, like, nobody gives a damn.”

To a point, people did get tired of the lockout and the “millionaire vs. billionaire” perception. Having said that, however, now that the lockout is over, fans would likely love to see the ins and outs of the process. This project could still work.

The problem is, Mathis is now back to playing and won’t have the time. But, couldn’t a Steve Sabol step in and work with Mathis to complete it? Couldn’t we set up a Kickstarter account to get Mathis the cash to do it?

Or, maybe it’s better to leave it alone now that the players and owners are bridging the gap created by the lockout process.
