On a day when Brian Billick said the Rams were having “sex with the hurry up,” the Eagles took that a bit further. They took the rams straight to the sack.
The new Jim Washburn defensive line rotation recorded five sacks in the season opener. Considering the team racked up just 39 sacks in all of 2010, today was a pretty good start.
Jason Babin, who became a Pro Bowler under Washburn in Tennessee last year, led the way with two sacks. Trent Cole, Cullen Jenkins and Darryl Tapp each racked up one.
Jason Babin showed last year was no fluke as he racked up two sacks in his return to Philly.
The pressure the Eagles line was able to put on Sam Bradford during Sunday’s 31-13 win set the tone for the entire defense. Besides an opening touchdown run by bully Stephen Jackson, the eagles defense was solid.
Even Juqua Parker made Washburn’s unit look solid with the slowest fumble recovery touchdown in the history of football.
If this is the pressure the Eagles bring every week, it’s only a matter of time until Nnamdi Asomugha and Asante Samuel are taking the rock to the house.
Just wait until this unit gels in Juan Castillo’s system.
