Call your DailyPhiladelphian a hater. I expect it.
But, the fact remains that Michael Vick is still a work in progress who needs to show improvement. He threw for two touchdowns and no interceptions. He rushed for nearly 100 yards behind an inexperienced line. He escaped trouble early and often. The human video game was sacked three times. He put up an admirable 83.7 QB rating
But, one stat jumps off of the page. His completion percentage was a pedestrian 43.7 percent. Let that sink in. Forty three point seven.
Michael Vick played well, but completed just 43.7 percent of his passes in Sunday’s win over the Rams.
Before last year, Vick was not a model of consistency when it came to completing passes. His highest was 56.4 in 2004.
Sure, DeSean Jackson dropped two sure-fire scores. Vick wasn’t helped playing behind the well-publicized shaky line. He will be better as the season goes on. He has to be.
Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Steve Smith barely played with Vick in the preseason. They haven’t really worked together as a unit since January thanks to the lockout.
Still, when looking at the game today, you know that 43.7 percent won’t get things done most days, especially as teams such as the Patriots, Giants and Bears loom.
