Finding anything positive after a humiliating, embarrassing, frustrating, throw-the-remote at the TV loss to the Giants that sunk the Eagles to a 1-2 record and last place in the NFC East isn’t something many feel like doing.

But, you can’t overlook LeSean McCoy and what he’s doing this season. The third-year pro from Pitt is on pace to break the Eagles single-season rushing record, currently held by Wilbert Montgomery (1.512 yards in 1979).

With his 128 yard performance on Sunday, Shady has 345 yards through the first three weeks. He’s on pace for an 1,840 yard season.

LeSean McCoy has 345 rushing yards through the Eagles first three games following his 128-yard outburst on Sunday.

Yes, we know it’s just three weeks and he has a long way to go. We’re not suggesting McCoy will keep this pace up for all 16 games. But, you can’t ignore what he’s doing and how rare this is for an Eagles running back.

The franchise has just 16, 1,000-yard seasons by seven guys. McCoy joined the list last year when he rushed for 1,080 yards in his first season as a starter, good enough for 11th on the list.

A team that’s made its mark through the passing game since Andy Reid took over finally has a legit, between-the-tackles runner. That’s not a shot at Brian Westbrook or even Duce Staley. McCoy is a different runner with different strengths than Westbrook. BWest was more explosive whereas McCoy is a bit stronger.

McCoy still needs 1,167 yards to break the franchise record, an average of 89.7 yards per game. Is it likely? If Vick is out for an extended period of time, probably not. Is it possible? Hey, they guy is averaging 115 yards a game through the first three weeks. You tell me.
