Michael Vick’s emotions finally boiled over after the Eagles signal caller broke his non-throwing hand in Sunday’s loss to the Giants. Vick, who has suffered a concussion and broken hand in back-to-back weeks says he’s not getting the same treatment as everyone else. From ESPN.com:
“I was trying to protect myself,” Vick said in his postgame news conference. “Still didn’t get a flag and that’s pretty much been the story for the last three weeks. I mean, obviously at some point something catastrophic is going to happen and I broke my hand.
“Looking at the replays, I’m on the ground every time, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t frustrated. The refs have got to do their jobs. And I mentioned it to the refs in training camp when I talked to them. I’m on the ground constantly, all the time. Every time I throw the ball, I’m on the ground. And I don’t know why I don’t get the 15-yard flags like everybody else does.”
Michael Vick broke his right hand in Sunday's loss to the Giants and expressed frustration with the refs.
Honestly, we can see where Vick is coming from. If Payton Manning or a Drew Brees takes some of the hits he does, there may be some flags. However, they’d be cheap flags in many cases. It’s football; you’re going to get hit, especially if you have the running ability of Vick. Defenses are going to make sure you get rid of that ball and don’t pull down and run. It’s not like a defender can just stop on a dime when you get rid of the ball. They’re coming at you in real-time speed.
What Vick needs to be more concerned about is his offensive line. Vick doesn’t hold onto the ball a crazy amount of time. If his line can give him an extra second or two per play, Vick avoids a lot of hits.
