Two weeks in a row, Michael Vick has been sidelined during Eagles fourth-quarter collapses due to injuries. Two weeks in a row, his injuries were seemingly swept into the land of make believe by Monday.
Last week, we instantly heard that Vick’s concussion was minor, leading us to believe he’d play against the Giants. Today, we hear that his “broken” hand ended up being merely a contusion.
At this point, we have to question just how the medical staff is handling this.
Look, we’re not doctors so to question medical opinions may seem a bit off. However, how can x-rays show a break one day and a contusion the next? Either someone was wrong yesterday, or they’re covering up today. Or, there’s an incompetent guy employed by the team.
Michael Vick's broken hand was rediagnosed as a contusion on Monday.
The bottom line is that Michael Vick is getting banged up early in the season and seems to be getting rushed back to the field, possibly before he’s ready.
Getting Vick on the field was a priority against the Giants; 7 gives the Birds the best chance to win. But, was he really concussion-symptom free? The Eagles signal caller looked a bit confused yesterday when the team had to literally throw him to the sideline as Alex Henery was lining up for a field goal before the half.
Now, the Eagles are 1-2 and find themselves in a must-win game Sunday against the 49ers. Suddenly, a broken hand turns into a contusion.
From where we sit — contusion or n=break — Michael Vick must sit this week. He needs to get his mind and hand right. Yes, he gives the Eagles the best chance to win. But, honestly, if you can’t beat the 49ers — a team that barely beat the Bengals yesterday — with either Mike Kafka or Vince Young, you’re not a playoff team anyway.
If you do win, then you sit at 2-2 with a healthier Vick for the following weeks.
