Two weeks ago, Michael Vick ripped the refs for not tossing yellow pieces of laundry when he was hit behind his line of scrimmage. Of course, most people realized his offensive line had more to do with his concussion and hand injuries than alleged late hits.

If Vick complained before, wait for emotions to boil over sometime around 4:15 on Sunday afternoon in Buffalo. The Eagles latest franchise quarterback better have his legs under him as he scrambles for his football life even more than usual. Losing starting tackle Jason Peters and adding rookie Danny Watkins in place of Kyle Devan will do that.

Yes, Peters hasn’t been the Runyanesque stud we all thought we were getting from the Bills two years back. But, he’s been solid when healthy and a stabilizing force on a completely unstable line. Dude is out with a hamstring injury and being replaced by King Dunlap.

Michael Vick will continue to run for his football life behind the eagles makeshift offensive line.

At right guard, Danny Watkins gets his first NFL action. He’s the second rookie to join the starters on the line with Jason Kelce entrenched as the center.

The concern here is that Watkins wasn’t good enough to dress after being replaced by DeVan days after he signed. Now, Watkins is suddenly good enough to start? Really? Is this just another incident in the line of events in which Andy Reid proves he’s smarter than anyone else? What are we missing here?

Look, this isn’t to say that Watkins isn’t working hard — he’s been the first in and last out of the NovaCare Complex. And, this isn’t to say he hasn’t improved and the lockout hurt his progression. Still, doesn’t the guy get a look as a backup before being a starter?

Buffalo’s defense isn’t exactly trashing quarterbacks this year, ranking dead last in the league with four total sacks. But, a line like the Eagles is surely a cure for that. Granted, Vick’s only been sacked six times, but he’s always been running for his life. That’s not going to change this week.
