As usual, the Daily News‘ “Eagletarian blog has done a good job of pulling key Andy Reid quotes from Sunday’s postgame presser. What follows is Reid’s comments, followed by our thoughts…the things we’d say/ask if real journalists-turned-bloggers like your DailyPhiladelphian received press credentials.
Reid: “In the National Football League, your job is on the line every week, man.”
TDP thoughts: Great cliche, but not true in your case, Big Red. This is truly the first time during your tenure where your job may very well be on the line. And, you’re not handling it well at all.
REID: “All I’m concerned about is that next game. All I can control is getting the football team better, the players better and the coaches better.”
TDP: Typical Reid-speak. Add the “need to put players in a position to make plays” garbage he usually spews, and this is nothing new. But, Andy needs to stop talking and just do it.
REID: “We’re in one game at a time here. That part is not going to change. We’re not worrying about the playoffs. We’re worried about winning one game at a time.”
TDP: Starting to sound like Jim Mora’s “Playoffs? Playoffs?!” tirade.
REID: “We are what we are right now and we’re going to get better … We have no excuses.”
TDP: Starting to sound like Denny Green’s “they were who we thought they were” blow up when the Bears came back and embarrassed his Cardinals.
REID On Juqua Parker’s boneheaded mistake at the end of the game: “Listen, I’m not saying anything on that. I’m not going to hang one guy out to dry on that play.”
TDP: Yet, you had no problem telling us to “do the math” after the Eagles playoff loss last January…had no trouble hanging out a stand-up guy like David Akers.
REID On not attempting a field goal at the end of the first half: “We thought we could get one more play off … . I thought we needed to get a score and thought we could get that taken care of.”
TDP: So, you still can’t manage your time well…shocker.
REID On Michael Vick: “He did some good things. He put us in a position to win the game or at least tie the game at the end and we had the interception at the end, but he did some good things.”
TDP: He also put you in a position to lose the game with three first half picks. The guy has a turnover in 12 straight games. What about that, Andy?
REID On what’s happening: “We need to eliminate turnovers and penalties in crucial situations. It seems pretty obvious.”
TDP: No shit Sherlock. So what are you going to do about it and when?

Unfortunately yet another reason why I stopped bleeding eagles green years ago. The much overpaid QB choices of Randall, Donovan and now Vick who are run first, pass (without much accuracy) second QB’s are way too unreliable to deliver us to the promised land. When they’re hot, they’re great to watch (like a Ryan Howard HR after some pitcher delivers him a telegraphed fastball), but in the long run, until we acquire a QB that is intelligent, we’re screwed.
Andy Ried is not the guy to get us anywhere… he can’t manage clock, has no balls to call out a player who has effed up royally and play calls are both predictable and horrible.
