With the continued unraveling of the Big East Conference, numerous schools are being mentioned as replacements for Pitt and Syracuse in coming years. Among them are Temple and Villanova.

Nova is already a basketball member and would require a change from FBS to D-I. That would be a huge step for a program that has been successful at its current level and doesn’t have a legit Big East stadium. Would the University really make that kind of commitment?

The Big East is reportedly interested in adding Temple and Villanova to its football roster.

As for Temple, it seems the conference that ousted them because of poor attendance is crawling back to them. While it might be good for the program to have a bigger “name” conference, the fact is that the Owls have become more than an afterthought thanks to its change in conferences.

Unless the Big East is ready to accept Temple for basketball, too, there’s a question as to how good a move going back to the Big East really is.
