After amnestying Elton Brand, the Sixers certainly could use a legitimate starting power forward in their line-up next year if they plan to build on the squad’s overachieving run to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Getting a guy who averaged a double-double the last two years almost seems too good to be true.
With second year forward Lavoy Allen and rookie Arnett Moultrie backing up Thaddeus Young, it’s clear the team needs to bring in a veteran. Normally in this case, getting a guy who averaged 13.8 points and 11 boards a game is a no-brainer unless you are discussing Kris Humphries. Yes, TMZ’s new sports whipping boy is making the rounds in NBA Rumor Central.
Believe it or not, Humphries has been linked to the Sixers in the Nets pursuit of Big Baby Dwight Howard. CSNPhilly.com pointed out a report by Hoops World stating that the Sixers could be a landing place for the ex-Mr. Kardashian.
The Sixers need to steer clear of TMZ star Kris Humphries.
While Humphries would seemingly fill a need, Rod Thorn and Doug Collins’ answer has to be thanks, but no thanks.
From a basketball standpoint, Humphries was a stiff the first six years of his career as he bounced around from Utah to Toronto to Dallas to New Jersey. Before arriving in New Jersey, Humphries never averaged more than 5.7 points or 3.8 rebounds. Then, on a bad Nets team, he came to life, especially when paired with Derron Williams.
Humpphries is a guy who can put up good numbers on a bad team with a stud point guard. While Jrue Holiday has the potential to be a top PG in the league, he is not even close to Williams right now. Unless you are getting him on a two-year deal to use as a sign-and-trade chip next offseason when the free agent market isn’t as bare as this year, the move makes no sense.
While the move would be poor from a basketball standpoint (and we haven’t even mentioned helping the Nets add Howard to Williams, Joe Johnson and Gerald Wallace), it makes even less sense from a team perspective. Peruse TMZ’s posts from the last few days and the man is getting almost as much play as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Is his ex-girlfriend Myla Sinanaj pregnant? Isn’t she pregnant?
The Sixers are trying to build around their youth. Surrounding Holiday, Evan Turner and others with this clown is the last thing you want to do. Not to mention the fact that he will be the eye of the storm and who knows if he can handle that. Sure, he is in TMZ’s eye, but in the New York area, was he really the focus of the sports world?
Just stay away from this clown. Nothing good can come from it unless you want the paparazzi at practice every day.
