Domonic Brown was reactivated from the DL last week and has picked up where he left off for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs — hitting the ball all over the pace.
In six games since his return he’s 8-for 22 with a homer, four RBI, five runs scored and two doubles. He’s also walked twice and struck out four times.
With trade rumors swirling around The Flyin’ Hawaiian and Hunter Pence, Brown will likely get called back to The Show this season at some point so the Phillies can see if the can rely on him to fill a void this offseason. If he can, the chances that the team can re-sign Victorino and go after a guy like Michael Bourn (expensive), or Cody Ross (cheap) and bullpen help increases.
Brown may never be the superstar we all wished for, but he can be a serviceable Hunter Pence-type player who hits .260-.270 and drives in runs. At the league minimum, he’d be a better buy that Pence at $14 million. Again, Brown needs to show he can handle major league pitching. Looks like he’ll get that chance.
